The simplest web analytics for my opinion is google analytics. My friend asked me how web analytics helps his website? So I would like to explain about web analytic first and then I will talk about Google Analytics.

Web Analytic’s Definition:
It is the study of the behavior of visitor. It shows you how people found your site, how they explored it, and how you can enhance their visitor experience. Improve your website return on investment, increase conversions, and make more money on the web.

Web analytics especially refers to the use of data collected from a web site to determine and calculate which aspects of the website work towards the business objectives; for example, which landing page encourage people to make a purchase.

Web Analytics are based:

1. Collection of visitor’s data from logfiles
2. Page tagging each webpage with a Javascript.

A third web analytics method is a combination of the two whereby more relevant data can be produced than what is possible with either of the two methods.

Google Analytic is page-tagging web analytics. Before you study about google analytic, you have to know about Web Analytics Term which I will write on future article. Why google choose page tagging method. The main advantages of page tagging over logfile analysis are as follows.

1. The JavaScript is automatically run every time the page is loaded. Thus there are fewer worries about caching.
2. It is easier to add additional information to the JavaScript, which can then be collected by the remote server. For example, information about the visitors’ screen sizes, or the price of the goods they purchased, can be added in this way. With logfile analysis, information not normally collected by the web server can only be recorded by modifying the URL.
3. Page tagging can report on events which do not involve a request to the web server, such as interactions within Flash movies.
4. The page tagging service manages the process of assigning cookies to visitors; with logfile analysis, the server has to be configured to do this.
5. Page tagging is available to companies who do not run their own web servers.

How it helps your website?
It will track visitors through your site, and will keep track of the performance of your marketing campaigns - whether they’re “AdWords” campaigns, email campaigns, or any other advertising program. With this information, you’ll know which keywords are really working, which ad text is the most effective, and where your visitors are dropping off during the conversion process. Google Analytics is a full-featured, powerful analytics package. The most important thing is free service.

You must to know about Web Analytic term if you would like to use this tool (Google analytic) for most useful.
